Apple has just revealed the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max during the company’s live-streamed “Far Out” product launch event.
The new flagship iPhone models are jam-packed with sophisticated capabilities, all of which are powered by Apple’s brand new A16 Bionic mobile chipset, which Apple describes as “the fastest chip ever in a smartphone.” This leads to improved efficiency and performance, as well as higher memory bandwidth for gaming and other demanding software programs.
Aside from the new A16 chip, these variants differ significantly from the previously announced basic iPhone 14. The first is the brand new Super Retina XDR display, which features the same always-on technology as the latest Apple Watch models. When not in use, the display dims automatically but remains on so you may easily access vital information.
The panel boasts a brightness of 1,600 nits, which is the same as the company’s standalone Pro Display XDR. It also includes a moveable and dynamic top notch called the Dynamic Island. This touch-enabled notch displays essential information such as battery status, pertinent alerts, music playing status, and more.
The camera system has been improved significantly, as expected. The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max have a 48-megapixel quad-pixel sensor, which is a significant improvement over the previous iteration’s 12-megapixel sensor. This translates to improved low-light performance, more detailed zoom, and full integration with the ProRAW format for greater detail.
A new adaptive flash that is twice as bright as current iPhone flash systems improves photos. In terms of video, a new “Action Mode” offers gimbal-like stabilization to fast-moving frames.
The new iPhone 14 Pro, like many of today’s announcements, incorporates crash detection software and a satellite-based SOS mode while traveling in locations without WiFi or cellular service.
Despite these enhancements, Apple claims that the iPhone 14 Pro line has all-day battery life but does not provide a specific measure. Preorders for the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max begin September 9, with shipping beginning September 16. The Pro costs $1,000, and the Pro Max costs $1,100.
