The GeForce RTX 4090 from Nvidia is a monster card with a hefty price tag that generates a lot of heat. There is so much heat that it may damage the cable connections. The problem appears to be caused by connectors that are not fully plugged into the card, according to a Friday update on Nvidia’s support page.
According to the company, there are about 50 cases of this happening. “We are actively investigating the reports,” according to Nvidia’s update. It recommends that card owners make sure the cable is securely fastened before plugging the card into the motherboard.

Just weeks after the GeForce RTX 4090 card was released, a few owners began sharing images of burned cable connections on the Nvidia subreddit. The 12VHPWR adapter is the cable that connects the computer’s power supply to the card, and due to the amount of power required to run the RTX 4090, a lot of heat accumulates, especially if the cable bends at a right angle to fit the massive card into a PC case.
Nvidia stated that it is working with its partners to replace the affected cards.
The GeForce RTX 4090 was released last month for the astronomical price of $1,600. It’s one of the best video cards for PC gaming rigs, especially for those who want to play 4K games.
