World’s Edge and Xbox Game Studios revealed Age of Empires is coming to iOS and Android as part of today’s 25th anniversary broadcast.
This is Microsoft’s latest attempt to break into the mobile gaming business, and it already has a leg up because to its acquisition of Activision Blizzard King, which is set to close in 2023. Age of Empires had previously been ported to mobile, but this appears to be the most faithful adaptation of the game to date. Age of Empires: Castle Siege, a tower defense game, and Age of Empires: World Domination, a real-time strategy game, both made their mobile debuts in 2015. Both games had brief lifespans, with Castle Siege terminating after four years and World Domination ending after only one.
Age of Empires Mobile – Announce Teaser
There will be no first views at gameplay given the announcement was only a quick trailer, but it will be interesting to watch how the makers reduce the large and sophisticated strategy game to something appropriate for on-the-go gaming. Crusader Kings III, an even more menu-heavy strategy game, made the transition from PC to Xbox systems earlier this year, getting positive reviews.
