Since the 1990s, Intel has utilized the Celeron and Pentium labels for CPUs, but they’re finally disappearing – albeit not in the way you’d expect. Beginning in 2023, the corporation will phase out both brand names for low-end laptop chips in favor of the simpler (if not particularly imaginative) “Intel Processor” label. According to Intel VP Josh Newman, the decision will help “simplify” the lineup.
The Core, Evo, and vPro labels will remain. Intel has not specify how it will manage desktop CPU branding, which will continue to include Celeron and Pentium variants produced this year.
The decision is not surprising. For years, the Celeron and Pentium labels have been synonymous with low-end processors, with very minor practical distinctions for customers. This makes it clear what you’re getting. It’s a basic model if you don’t see “Core.” And, let’s be honest, folks looking for entry-level laptops aren’t as concerned with branding as their enthusiast counterparts. Pricing and basic functionality are more significant in this case.
